While many subscribers head to Peacock for reality TV or NBC classics, the streamer’s original scripted content is starting to steal the spotlight. Following the massive success of The Day of the Jackal in 2024, a new contender has arrived to claim the top spot.
The series, titled M.I.A., has quickly dethroned the platform's usual heavy-hitters to become the #1 show on the service. Created by Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque, the show brings a gritty, dark energy to the bright streets of Florida.
The story follows Etta Tiger Jonze, played by breakout star Shannon Gisela. Etta belongs to a family deep in the drug-running business. However, when her world is shattered and her family is killed, she dives headfirst into Miami’s dangerous underbelly on a mission for cold-blooded revenge.
The show captures a specific "Miami vibe" that feels both authentic and stylish. This shouldn't come as a surprise, as the executive producer and showrunner is Karen Campbell, a former writer for the hit series Dexter.

Despite having a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the series is winning over audiences largely due to Gisela's performance. While some critics feel the plot can be a bit slow at times, they agree that Gisela's screen presence makes every scene worth watching.
Critics have described the show as:
The "Sweatier" Cousin of Ozark: It carries the tension of Dubuque’s previous work but with a more deranged, neon-lit twist.
A Visual Treat: The show perfectly captures the atmosphere that made shows like Miami Vice iconic.
A Slow Burn: Some reviewers suggest the series is still "finding itself," but the potential for future seasons is immense.
Joining Shannon Gisela is an impressive lineup of talent, including veteran actor Cary Elwes, alongside Danay Garcia, Alberto Guerra, and Marta Milans.
Whether you are waiting for the next season of your favorite thriller or just need something new for the weekend, M.I.A. offers a stylish, high-stakes escape into the world of Florida crime.
