For years, fans noticed one major pattern in the series: while many characters died, the core members of The Boys always survived. That changed in the penultimate episode when Frenchie sacrificed himself during a confrontation with Homelander.
The shocking death instantly raised the stakes heading into the final episode of the series.

The episode focused heavily on Frenchie and Kimiko Miyashiro as the team worked on a dangerous plan to stop Homelander.
Using research connected to Soldier Boy, the group exposed Kimiko to radiation in hopes of giving her the ability to remove a Supe’s powers. The experiment worked, but the cost turned out to be devastating.
At the end of the episode, Homelander arrived while searching for Sister Sage after learning she had betrayed him.
Frenchie quickly hid Kimiko and Sage behind zinc walls to block Homelander’s vision before facing the villain alone. Knowing he could not survive the fight, he intentionally delayed Homelander long enough for Kimiko to remain safe.
The decision ultimately cost Frenchie his life.

Frenchie dying in Kimiko’s arms became one of the most heartbreaking moments in the show’s history.
The scene also completely changed the feeling heading into the series finale because it proved that no main character is safe anymore.
According to TVLine, showrunner Eric Kripke explained that the series needed a major sacrifice before the ending.
Kripke said victories in stories should feel difficult and painful rather than easy. He also compared the emotional cost of the finale to classic fantasy stories where major losses are necessary before final success.

Episode 7 also introduced a possible new weapon against Homelander.
After the experiment, Kimiko now appears capable of stripping Supes of their powers in a similar way to Soldier Boy. This could become the key to defeating Homelander in the finale.
However, fans believe the final battle will still involve several major characters, including Ryan Butcher and Soldier Boy.
Many viewers also expect Billy Butcher to sacrifice himself before the series ends.
Frenchie’s death feels like the beginning rather than the end of the tragedy.
The series has spent years building toward Homelander’s downfall, and Episode 7 made it clear that defeating him will come at an extremely high price.
With only one episode remaining, fans are now preparing for what could become the bloodiest and most emotional finale in the history of The Boys.
The series streams exclusively on Prime Video.
