The WONDERfools delivered an emotional and action-packed ending that mixed dark comedy, superhero powers, and Y2K-era panic into one explosive finale.
The series wrapped up several major mysteries while also leaving the door open for a possible second season.

One of the biggest reveals in the finale involved Dr. Ha Won-do, played by Son Hyun-joo.
According to the storyline, Won-do secretly carried out dangerous human experiments 20 years earlier. His most important subject was a mysterious boy known as the “Child of Eternity,” who could repeatedly die and regenerate.

Viewers also learned that a young Lee Un-jeong, played by Cha Eun-woo, caused the original laboratory explosion while trying to save the child from torture.
The explosion left the boy brain-dead, but Madam Kim Jeon-bok secretly used the child’s “Eternal Heart” to save her granddaughter, Eun Chae-ni, played by Park Eun-bin.

This finally explained why Chae-ni developed teleportation powers and why she could not permanently die after falling into the toxic waste site in Episode 1.
The finale’s biggest action sequence involved Dr. Won-do’s final experiment.
He launched a massive blimp carrying toxic chemicals and explosives over Haeseong City during the New Year’s Eve 1999 countdown. His goal was to trigger a city-wide disaster.
The group then worked together to stop the attack.

Ro-bin used his super strength to launch Chae-ni and Gyeong-hun into the air. Gyeong-hun used his sticky-hand powers to attach them to the blimp, while Chae-ni teleported the explosive aircraft away from the city just seconds before midnight.
After the blimp explosion, Chae-ni failed to return home, making everyone believe she had died.
The emotional funeral scenes showed the town mourning her disappearance, especially Un-jeong.
However, the finale later revealed a surprising twist. Chae-ni suddenly returned home covered in dirt and exhausted. She explained that she successfully teleported the blimp to the base of Mount Kilimanjaro but became stranded there because her powers could not bring her back.
She jokingly revealed that she had to hitchhike and travel all the way back to South Korea.

The ending also teased a dangerous future threat.
Although most of the town lost memories of the night because of Ju-ran’s mind-control powers, one major problem remained unresolved.
Before Dr. Won-do died during the laboratory collapse, Ju-ran injected him with a serum created from Chae-ni’s blood.
In the mid-credits scene, Won-do’s body slowly regenerated beneath the rubble before he suddenly opened his eyes.
The moment confirmed that he had finally achieved immortality, setting up a major storyline for a possible second season if Netflix renews the series.
