Damon kicked off the episode with a nostalgic monologue about his past hosting appearances and his longtime connection to the show.
The audience laughed as his mother joined several cast members’ moms in the crowd for a funny segment about Damon’s movie career. Many of them intentionally mixed up his films with movies starring Ben Affleck, creating one of the night’s biggest comedy moments.

According to NBC, the episode continued the show’s yearly tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day by bringing real-life family members onto the stage.
Instead of focusing on politics, the cold open highlighted the cast members and their mothers sharing personal jokes and playful criticism about the season’s sketches.
The heartfelt opening gave the episode a warm tone before moving into the more chaotic comedy segments later in the night.

One of the standout sketches of the evening was “The Monsters Channel,” featuring Damon as the host of a low-budget horror movie marathon.
The comedy centered around ridiculous monsters that became less scary and more awkward with every appearance. Viewers online quickly praised the sketch for its old-school SNL energy and Damon’s over-the-top reactions.
A recurring joke throughout the episode involved Mikey Day repeatedly getting sprayed or spit on by different characters, including a giant Godzilla.
The exaggerated physical comedy became one of the most talked-about moments of the episode on social media.

During the “Weekend Update” segment, Colin Jost and Michael Che joked about several unusual headlines from the week.
Comedian Kam Patterson also made a guest appearance, bringing his energetic stand-up style to the desk segment.
Another sketch focused on modern parenting in 2026, making fun of technology-obsessed children and overwhelmed parents.
Noah Kahan delivered two emotional performances during the show.
He performed “The Great Divide” and later returned for “Porch Light,” showcasing his signature folk-rock sound that has helped him grow into one of the most popular young artists in music today.

The episode ended with the announcement that Will Ferrell will host the Season 51 finale on May 16 alongside musical guest Paul McCartney.
Damon closed the night by thanking the cast, crew, Noah Kahan, and viewers while also wishing mothers around the world a Happy Mother’s Day.
The episode also included a silent tribute honoring Little Richard and first-season producer Craig Kellem.
