Kathryn Hahn in Talks to Play Mother Gothel in Tangled

Disney’s live-action Tangled may add Kathryn Hahn as its main villain

Kathryn Hahn may soon return to Disney villain territory. The actress is currently in talks to play Mother Gothel in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled, according to Variety.

While the deal is not finalized yet, Hahn is expected to join the already reported cast that includes Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. If confirmed, Hahn would take on the role of Mother Gothel, the central antagonist who pretends to be Rapunzel’s protective guardian while secretly using her magical hair to remain young.

Disney has not officially commented on the casting discussions.

The live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman. The film is being produced by Kristin Burr, with a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Production is expected to begin later this year.

The original animated Tangled, released in 2010, was a major success for Disney, earning nearly $600 million worldwide. The voice cast included Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Brad Garrett, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.

Hahn has been enjoying a strong run lately. She recently appeared in Apple’s acclaimed series The Studio and starred in Agatha All Along on Disney+, a spinoff of WandaVision. She is also set to appear in Madden, a biopic directed by David O. Russell, alongside Christian Bale and Nicolas Cage.

With her proven ability to balance charm and menace, Kathryn Hahn could be a natural fit for one of Disney’s most memorable villains in this highly anticipated live-action remake.
