The lineup was announced on Nov. 17 through the show’s official social media accounts. Grande and Cher were listed as host and performer for the festive episode, which will air from 30 Rock.
The episode is also expected to mark the final appearance of cast member Bowen Yang, who joined the show in 2019. Yang recently appeared alongside Grande in the film adaptation of Wicked and its upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good.

Promotional videos released this week feature Grande, Cher and Yang together in a series of sketches. The promos were shared online ahead of the episode.
Grande has appeared on “Saturday Night Live” multiple times over the years. She first appeared as a musical guest in 2014, later hosted and performed in 2016, returned as a musical guest in March 2024, and hosted again in October 2024. Cher last appeared as a musical guest on the show in 1987 and also took part in the program’s 50th anniversary celebration earlier this year.

During her most recent hosting appearance, Grande performed celebrity impressions, including Jennifer Coolidge and Celine Dion. One sketch from that episode became the most-viewed segment of the 2024–25 season.
Outside of the show, Grande is currently promoting Wicked: For Good, which is scheduled for theatrical release on Nov. 21. Cher recently attended the Bambi Awards in Munich, where she received the Legend Award.
