Domestic Box Office: Verity Leads October Weekend With $32.6 Million

The domestic box office had a new No. 1 over the October 2–4 weekend, with Verity opening at the top of the chart.

The Amazon MGM release earned $32.6 million from 3,510 theaters in its debut. That put it well ahead of Resident Evil, which finished second with $12.5 million in its second weekend.

The overall weekend remained relatively soft, with the top 10 films bringing in about $99 million domestically.

Verity Opens at No. 1

Verity had the strongest performance of the weekend, taking in $32.6 million across 3,510 theaters.

The film is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel and stars Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. Its opening was roughly 2.6 times the weekend gross of the No. 2 film.

With a debut of this size, Verity immediately became the weekend's leading theatrical release.

Resident Evil Holds Second Place

Resident Evil remained in second place during its second weekend.

The Sony release earned $12.5 million, down 46% from its previous weekend, while playing in 3,259 theaters.

Despite the drop, it remained comfortably ahead of the films that followed it in the chart.

Heart of the Beast Takes Third

Paramount's Heart of the Beast collected $11 million in its third weekend.

The film was down 45% and played across 3,481 theaters.

Its weekend decline was similar to Resident Evil, allowing it to remain above the $10 million mark despite being in its third week.

Primetime and Digger Tie at $8 Million

A24's Primetime and Warner Bros.' Digger finished the weekend with the same reported gross of $8 million.

Primetime was in its second weekend and dropped 58%, playing in 2,894 theaters.

Digger, meanwhile, was a new release. The Tom Cruise-led film, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, opened in 3,321 theaters.

The $8 million debut was notably low for a Cruise-led theatrical release and was reported as his lowest opening in 19 years.

Avengers Endgame Encore Drops 83%

Avengers Endgame Encore experienced the biggest decline among the top 10 titles.

The Disney release earned $4.4 million from 3,000 theaters, representing an 83% drop from the previous weekend.

The sharp decline came during its later theatrical run.

Drishyam – The Conclusion Enters the Top 10

Drishyam – The Conclusion reached eighth place with $2.7 million.

The Zee Studios International release was playing in only 541 theaters, making it the smallest theater count among the top 10 films.

Its limited release still placed it ahead of Practical Magic 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day for the weekend.

Practical Magic 2 and Spider-Man Round Out the Chart

Practical Magic 2 finished ninth with $2.6 million from 2,063 theaters. The film was down 53% in its latest weekend.
