The final chapter of Prime Video's flagship superhero satire, The Boys, is proving that internet noise doesn't always match commercial success. Ahead of its highly anticipated series finale, Amazon revealed that Season 5 has brought in a staggering 57 million viewers per episode globally.

The historic ratings arrive right in the middle of intense online backlash. Audiences have flooded forums and social media platforms to express disappointment, with some critics drawing uncomfortable comparisons to the universally panned final season of HBO's Game of Thrones.
The primary complaint? Viewers argue that the pacing has felt incredibly sluggish, labeling many of the subplots as "filler" designed to stretch time before the big finale.
Showrunner Eric Kripke addressed the digital uproar directly, admitting that reading social media comments initially gave him a "pit in his stomach." However, the massive data from Amazon completely changed his perspective.

"How many times do I have to relearn the lesson that the online world is not the actual world?" Kripke stated, noting that the vocal dissatisfaction represents only a tiny fraction of the actual audience.
Defending the slower narrative pace, Kripke explained that managing a massive ensemble cast of 14 to 15 major characters required deep storytelling. He emphasized that an action-heavy final battle wouldn't carry any emotional weight if the writers skipped humanizing the characters first. "At no point during the writing of it was I like, 'Oh yeah, we’re making filler episodes,'" Kripke told reporters.

While the main story wraps up this week, the universe isn't going anywhere. The massive viewership of Season 5 has already successfully laid the groundwork for Vought Rising, an upcoming prequel series scheduled to premiere next year.
