The Season 1 finale of Marshals ended with an emotional tribute that left many viewers searching for one question: Who was Leonard “Lenny” E. Hancock Jr.?
The CBS series honored Hancock with a heartfelt message that appeared after the finale aired on May 24, 2026: “In loving memory of Leonard ‘Lenny’ E. Hancock Jr.”
While many fans may not have recognized his name immediately, Lenny played a major role behind the scenes as the show’s prop master, helping shape the visual identity and realism of the hit series.
Lenny Hancock Jr. was widely respected in the television industry for his detailed prop work and dedication to authenticity.
On Marshals, he worked closely on the tactical gear, vests, weapons, and visual details that gave each character a distinct personality and believable backstory.
In a behind-the-scenes CBS video released as a tribute, Hancock explained how carefully each vest was designed for the characters.
Speaking about Cal, played by Logan Marshall-Green, and Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, he revealed that their military backgrounds inspired the tactical choices used on screen.
He explained that small details mattered because viewers with real-world experience would notice authenticity immediately.
Hancock also described how costume and prop colors helped subtly tell the story of each character.
He noted that Belle, played by Arielle Kebbel, received a green vest to reflect her cowgirl roots, while Andrea, played by Ash Santos, wore black tactical gear inspired by metropolitan law enforcement styles from Washington, DC.
According to Hancock, those visual choices helped audiences instantly understand the characters without lengthy exposition.
He also proudly showcased the show’s massive 48-foot “prop house on wheels,” which he jokingly called a “trailer of dreams.”
At one point, he laughed about how difficult it was to explain his profession to people outside Hollywood.
“There’s no way you can really learn this in a book,” he said in the video. “I still can’t even explain to my parents what I do.”
According to Arizona Family, Hancock died on December 23, 2025, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, after a UTV accident.
Officials stated that he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times. He died at the scene.
Just months earlier, Hancock had shared photos from the Marshals set in Park City, Utah, calling it his home for several months during production.
Following his death, Hancock’s son, Aidan Hancock, created GoFundMe pages both for his father’s memorial service and to help continue his racing career.
In an emotional message, Aidan wrote that his father had been the foundation behind his dreams and biggest supporter throughout his racing journey.
The memorial fundraiser reportedly raised more than $10,000, with “Marshals” showrunner Spencer Hudnut among the major contributors.
Beyond Marshals, Hancock built an impressive television career across several major franchises.
He worked on all seven seasons of SEAL Team and also contributed to all seven seasons of CSI: NY, along with two seasons of CSI: Cyber.
As fans continue reacting to the emotional finale tribute online, many are now discovering how much of the show’s realism and atmosphere came from Hancock’s behind-the-scenes work — and why the “Marshals” team considered him such an important part of the series.
