Jason Constantine, Co-President of Lionsgate, Passes Away at 55 After Cancer Battle

Jason Constantine, who helped lead Lionsgate’s movie division for over 20 years, has died at 55 after battling cancer. He played a big role in creating many of the studio’s most successful films.

A Leader Behind Major Film Franchises

Jason Constantine began his career at Lionsgate when it was still called Trimark Pictures. Starting out as Director of Acquisitions, he steadily worked his way up to become one of the studio’s top executives.

He was the force behind some of Lionsgate’s most successful franchises, including:

  • John Wick

  • Saw

  • The Expendables

His early support for the Saw franchise helped turn it into a billion-dollar horror phenomenon after he pushed for the acquisition of the original concept.

  • Crash (Best Picture Oscar winner)

  • Precious (Five Oscar nominations, two wins)

  • Knives Out (over $312 million at the global box office)

  • The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Kick-Ass, Angel Has Fallen, and more

  • Horror classics like Cabin Fever and The Cabin in the Woods

Education and Personal Life

Born and raised in California, Constantine earned a B.A. from Princeton and an M.F.A. in film production from Loyola Marymount University. He also created two short films: a romantic comedy and an award-winning drama.
