Vasana Montgomery Apologizes in Social Media Statement

Love Island USA Season 8 contestant Vasana Montgomery has spoken publicly after being removed from the Peacock reality dating series ahead of the show's premiere.

Montgomery shared a statement on her Instagram Story after videos resurfaced online that appeared to show her using a racial slur during her teenage years. The videos began circulating shortly after the Season 8 cast was announced.

Following the controversy, Montgomery was removed from the cast before the June 2 premiere.

In her statement, Montgomery apologized for her past actions and acknowledged the language used in the videos.

"I want to address a couple videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced," she wrote. "In those videos, I used a racial slur. There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry. I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words."

She added that she takes full responsibility for her comments and understands why people were hurt by them.

Montgomery also said she has changed since the videos were recorded and has spent time educating herself about the impact of the language she used.

"Since then, I have grown a lot as a person and taken the time to educate myself, listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have," she wrote.

The former Love Island USA contestant concluded her statement by saying she believes accountability and personal growth can exist together, while again apologizing to those she hurt or disappointed.
