CJP Protest LIVE: Kharge Demands Education Minister's Resignation Before Talks
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar entered its 26th day on Thursday, with demonstrators continuing to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The issue also echoed in Parliament, where the opposition pressed the government over the ongoing agitation.
Protest Continues at Jantar Mantar
CJP workers remain firm on their demand for the Education Minister's resignation and reforms to the country's entrance examination system.
Speaking at the protest site, CJP leader Abhijeet Deepke alleged that outsiders were being sent to disrupt the demonstration.
"We have been sitting here for nearly a month, and nothing like this happened before. As the protest has grown, people are being sent to provoke the protesters," he claimed.
Deepke also alleged that BJP workers were involved in stone-pelting incidents and accused the police of bringing trucks filled with stones to the area. According to him, these actions were intended to defame the protesters.
Kharge's Statement in Parliament
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the opposition would only be ready for talks if Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post.
The issue continued to disrupt proceedings in both Houses of Parliament as opposition parties demanded accountability over the examination controversy.
PM Modi Responds to Student Protest
Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued his first public response to the ongoing student protests through a post on X.
He said the welfare and future of the country's youth remain the government's highest priority.
The Prime Minister announced that fast-track courts would be established to ensure quicker trials in paper leak cases. He also said that the concerned authorities had been instructed to take all necessary steps to ensure those responsible face strict punishment.
Modi added that anyone attempting to damage the future of the country's youth would not be spared.
NEET Row Reaches Parliament
The controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in entrance examinations has now moved from the streets to Parliament.
While students continue their protest at Jantar Mantar, opposition parties have repeatedly raised the issue inside Parliament, demanding reforms to the examination system and greater accountability.
Protest Escalates
The protest gained further attention after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a prolonged hunger strike, was taken to a hospital by police.
Following that development, clashes reportedly took place between protesters and security personnel during a march toward Parliament, raising further questions about the handling of the demonstrations.
Metro Services Affected
As a precautionary measure, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation temporarily closed several metro stations on Wednesday due to security concerns around the protest site.
The closures affected hundreds of daily commuters, with many forced to change their routes or complete part of their journey by road.
