At the start of the premiere, Beth, Rip, and Carter are shown living peacefully on their ranch in Dillon, Montana, about one year after the Yellowstone finale.
During a romantic evening in a meadow, Beth and Rip suddenly wake up to a dangerous storm. Moments later, a lightning strike sparks a massive wildfire that quickly spreads across the mountains toward their ranch.
While Rip stays behind to save the cattle, Beth rushes home to protect Carter and rescue important family belongings, including John Dutton’s cowboy hat and Elsa Dutton’s knife from 1883.

One of the biggest moments in the premiere happens when Rip rides directly through flames to save a calf left behind during the evacuation.
Cole Hauser later revealed that he performed most of the dangerous fire stunts himself.
Director Christina Alexandra Voros explained that much of the fire sequence used real practical effects instead of relying only on CGI.
She shared that the production team worked closely with stunt coordinators, animal trainers, and safety crews to film the wildfire scenes realistically while keeping everyone safe.

The story then jumps ahead six months as they begin building a new life at another ranch.
The premiere also features performances from Kelly Reilly, Finn Little, and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Season 1 will include nine episodes in total. New episodes will stream weekly on Paramount+ before airing on Paramount Network.
