Great news for movie fans! Darren Aronofsky, the director of Black Swan and The Whale, is back with a new crime movie called Caught Stealing. It stars Austin Butler as Hank Thompson, a former baseball player whose quiet life turns into chaos after he agrees to take care of his neighbor’s cat.
Set in late 1990s New York City, Hank works as a bartender and lives with his girlfriend Yvonne, played by Zoë Kravitz. When he agrees to look after his neighbor Russ’s cat, he unknowingly gets pulled into a dangerous world of criminal gangs, including Russian and Puerto Rican factions.
The film features an impressive cast including:
Austin Butler as Hank Thompson
Zoë Kravitz as Yvonne
Matt Smith as Russ
Liev Schreiber, Regina King, Bad Bunny, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, and Carol Kane
The screenplay is adapted by Charlie Huston from his own novel series, and Aronofsky directs with his signature intense style.
The trailer shows gritty violence mixed with dark humor and a deep love for New York City. Aronofsky calls this movie “a true love letter to the greatest city in the world,” capturing the city’s energy and mood perfectly.
Caught Stealing is set to hit theaters on August 29, 2025, and is being distributed by Sony Pictures.
