According to B, she and Freddie shared a close and loving relationship throughout her childhood and teen years until his death in 1991. He passed away from pneumonia related to AIDS. Before he died, he gave B 17 volumes of his personal journals, which she had kept private — until now.

Freddie’s Daughter Speaks from the Heart

In a handwritten letter shared in the book, B writes:
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship… He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem unusual, but he never let that affect how he loved and cared for me.”

Freddie Raised Her in Secret With Close Friends

Biographer Lesley-Ann Jones shares that Freddie was a devoted dad. He didn’t include B in his official will to keep her identity hidden but made private arrangements to support her. B was raised by her mother and her mother’s husband, with Freddie having his own room in their home.

He called his daughter every day while on tour and visited whenever he could. The three adults raised B together in harmony, protecting her identity and keeping her out of the spotlight.

Why the World Never Knew

Freddie had multiple relationships with both men and women, including Mary Austin, who remained his lifelong friend. But the affair with his friend’s wife was kept secret to avoid scandal. The child’s mother, a Roman Catholic, refused to have an abortion, and the pregnancy was kept private.
