He is currently undergoing a retrial after his 2020 conviction in New York was overturned.
Weinstein: "Immoral Is Not Illegal"
Weinstein admitted to being unfaithful to his wife and hurting family and friends. However, he denied ever committing a crime. He emphasized the difference between immoral actions and illegal ones, saying that while he may have acted inappropriately, it was not criminal.
He also apologized to anyone he may have hurt unintentionally but stood firm in rejecting the assault accusations.
Weinstein expressed frustration that former Hollywood friends have not supported him. He believes many fear being “canceled” if they defend him. Despite his efforts to reach out, he said no one has been willing to speak up on his behalf in court.
He also criticized what he sees as a rush to judgment in the media and entertainment industry.
Addressing specific claims from actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Weinstein said he did make a “pass” at her during a meeting but denied any physical contact or misconduct. He called her version of the event a “total fabrication.” According to him, their meeting ended with a drink and a request for a massage that she refused.
Weinstein’s comments come as new testimony is being heard in court. Jessica Mann, the third accuser in the ongoing retrial, has shared details about alleged incidents in 2006 and 2013.
