All three young actors are relative newcomers, but according to showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, their screen tests were nothing short of magical. “The skills of these three exceptional actors are a joy to witness,” Gardiner shared. “We can’t wait for audiences to see their incredible chemistry come to life.”
Joining the trio are several well-known actors in key adult roles:
- Albus Dumbledore: John Lithgow
- Severus Snape: Paapa Essiedu
- Minerva McGonagall: Janet McTeer
- Rubeus Hagrid: Nick Frost
- Professor Quirrell: Luke Thallon
- Argus Filch: Paul Whitehouse
This casting lineup blends established talent with bold new energy, promising a fresh take while staying true to the source material.
Described as a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga, HBO’s reboot is set to unfold over multiple seasons—one for each book. This format will allow for deeper storytelling, character development, and more time in the magical world than the original films could provide.
Production is set to begin in summer 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the iconic filming location of the original movie series. Fans can expect the series to premiere on HBO Max sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.

The series is executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, Mark Mylod, J.K. Rowling, and producers from Brontë Film and TV and Heyday Films.
