President Donald Trump recently played down concerns about TikTok being used by China for espionage. In an interview with Fox News, he questioned the significance of China spying on young users watching entertaining videos.
On January 21, 2025, Trump signed an executive order delaying a previously mandated TikTok ban by 75 days. This move allows ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, extra time to find a U.S. buyer and avoid a complete shutdown of the app in the United States. The decision followed congressional legislation pushing for a ban unless TikTok is sold to an approved buyer.
Since joining TikTok last year, Trump has gained nearly 15 million followers. He acknowledged the platform’s role in connecting him with younger voters and hinted at possibly installing the app on his phone in the future.
