The May 27, 2025 episode of Jeopardy! brought edge-of-your-seat excitement, as bold Final Jeopardy wagers changed the entire course of the game. Fans were left stunned after all three contestants missed the final clue, resulting in surprisingly low final scores.
Returning champion Judith Friedman entered the game with a one-day total of $32,001. She faced challengers Tyler Griffith, a criminal forensic scientist, and Jackie Yang.
Griffith took major risks early, going all-in on two True Daily Doubles—and answering both correctly. Though trailing at times, he kept himself in the race heading into Final Jeopardy.
Heading into the final round, the scores were tight:
Tyler Griffith: $11,200
Jackie Yang: $10,800
Judith Friedman: $6,400
Final Jeopardy Turns the Game Upside Down
The Final Jeopardy clue, under the category “American History,” asked about a man who, in 1847, took Irene Emerson to court in Missouri—ten years before he became nationally famous.
The correct response was: Who is Dred Scott?
All three contestants missed it.
Their wagers sealed the drama:
Friedman went all-in and ended with $0
Yang wagered $10,500, finishing with only $300
Griffith wagered $10,401, ending with $799—enough to win

Despite ending with less than $1,000, Tyler Griffith had no regrets. He posted online:
“I do not regret in the slightest wagering that much and finishing with that little, because I am a Jeopardy champion. AH!!!!”
