Manipur is a state in the northeastern region of India (India). Its history is very old and the discovery of civilization here is basically found in small villages of West Manipur. The main events in the history of Manipur are given below:
Ancient History: I know about the ancient civilization of Manipur, but there was a small kingdom in this region called Nongda Laren Pakhangba, which flourished around 33 AD. The name Manipur is often associated with a battle in the Mahabharata, which is mentioned in the historical text "Mahabharata".
Cheitharol Kumbha: The main text of the history of Manipur is "Cheitharol Kumbhaba", in which information about the kings of Manipur and their reign has been given. This text is written in the Manipuri language and is a primary source for dynastic history.
Manipur under the British Raj: In the 18th century, Manipur had its first encounter with the British East India Company. In 1891, British forces took over Manipur and made it a province of British India. Thereafter, the Raja of Manipur remained under the British Ruler.
Freedom Movement: Manipur was an important center of India's freedom movement. In 1942, National Congress chief Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose founded the "Azad Hind Fauj" on the playground of Moirang. The people of Manipur also fought for independence and launched a movement against the British rulers.
Manipur becoming a state: After India's independence, Manipur was made a competent princely state in 1947. But in 1972, Manipur got the status of an independent state with the citizenship of India.
