Melissa Barrera Addresses Departure from 'Scream VII' Amid Israel-Hamas Controversy: A Stand Against Hate and Advocacy for Justice
Melissa Barrera, known for her roles in 'Scream 6' and 'Scream', was quietly dropped from the upcoming 'Scream VII' following comments she made online about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Barrera emphasized her condemnation of hate and prejudice, standing firm in her belief that everyone deserves equal rights and freedom. She reiterated that criticizing a governing body should not equate to criticizing an entire group of people. Her stance highlighted the need to distinguish between leadership and the population it governs.
The decision to remove Barrera from 'Scream VII' led to frustration from the film's director, Christopher Landon, who distanced himself from the choice, expressing disappointment. Following Barrera's exit, her co-star Jenna Ortega also decided not to return for the upcoming film due to scheduling conflicts with her other filming commitments.
Ortega, a Primetime Emmy nominee, is currently engaged in various projects, including finishing filming for 'Beetlejuice 2', starting Netflix's 'Wednesday' series, and facing scheduling challenges that clash with 'Scream VII' filming, which is yet to have a finalized script.
