Cue the happy tears—because Prince William just delivered an emotional tribute that’s melting hearts everywhere. The Prince of Wales, 43, shared a heartfelt video message on November 29, celebrating Robert Irwin’s big “Dancing with the Stars” win while also honoring the unforgettable legacy of Robert’s late father, Steve Irwin.

The special message was released ahead of the 2025 Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane, and William didn’t hold back on the praise. He lovingly called Steve a true “wildlife warrior” and reminded the world that his powerful mission to protect nature is still shaping global conservation today.
William made it clear that Steve’s passion lives on through his family—especially through Robert. “Steve’s mission in life was to safeguard life on our planet,” William said, adding that this mission is now more important than ever as the world faces rising temperatures, endangered species, shrinking water resources, and growing waste problems.
And yes, Robert got a royal shout-out too! William proudly praised the 21-year-old conservationist’s growing role as a Global Ambassador for the Earthshot Prize, calling him incredibly dedicated and passionate. Then came the playful moment fans loved:
“We couldn’t have asked for a better ambassador—and he’s not a bad dancer either,” William joked. “That clearly runs in the family.”
If you missed it, Robert Irwin won Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” on November 25 with partner Witney Carson, and the internet went wild. Even Prince William and Kate Middleton joined the celebration online, commenting on Robert’s post:
“Congratulations, Robert and Witney! ”

And in the most wholesome twist, William had already surprised fans with a cameo earlier in the season. During a November 11 episode, he appeared in a prerecorded video from Brazil and joked with Carson, telling her to cover Robert in as much glitter as possible. Royal shade—but make it sparkly.
From the dance floor to the conservation world, Robert Irwin is clearly carrying forward his father’s powerful legacy. And thanks to Prince William’s emotional message, the world is being reminded once again that Steve Irwin’s impact is far from over.
