Amazon MGM releases trailer for murder mystery set for 2026

Amazon MGM Studios has released the trailer for The Sheep Detectives, an upcoming murder-mystery film starring Hugh Jackman. The film is set to arrive in theatres during the Mother’s Day weekend in May 2026.

Jackman plays a shepherd who lives quietly with his flock. In the trailer, his character is shown caring for the sheep, reading them crime novels and speaking about his responsibility toward them. The story takes a turn when the shepherd is found dead, and the sheep begin investigating his murder after learning that he had written a will naming several people.

The trailer runs for two minutes and 39 seconds and presents the story as a mystery told from the perspective of the sheep. Amazon MGM Studios shared the trailer on social media, confirming a theatrical release planned for May 2026.

Following the trailer’s release, viewers responded positively online, with many noting the unusual premise and family-friendly tone. Some also pointed out that the film is based on Glennkill, a novel by German author Leonie Swann.

The Sheep Detectives is directed by Balda and written by Craig Mazin. Along with Jackman, the cast includes Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Rhys Darby.
