Lionsgate is not waiting long to continue The Housemaid story.
The studio has confirmed that production on The Housemaid’s Secret is scheduled to begin in 2026. The film follows the success of The Housemaid, which quickly turned into one of the studio’s biggest holiday releases.
The sequel is based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s popular trilogy. Development has been underway for months, but the first film’s box office performance pushed the project forward.

In just 17 days, The Housemaid brought in $133 million worldwide. More than $75 million came from theaters in North America. Those numbers made it clear there was an audience ready for another chapter.
The story will once again focus on Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney. She is expected to return for the sequel and will also take on an executive producer role. Michele Morrone is also set to reprise his role.
Much of the original creative team is staying in place. Rebecca Sonnenshine is back to adapt the novel. Producers Todd Lieberman, Paul Feig, and Laura Fischer are returning as well. Feig is expected to direct again.

Speaking about the decision, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said the response to the first film made the sequel an easy call. Audience turnout and online reaction showed that viewers want to know where the story goes next.
In the wake of The Housemaid making over $100 million in theaters, Lionsgate has announced that filming will begin this year on sequel THE HOUSEMAID'S SECRET.
