Euphoria Season 3: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje on Alamo’s Dark Turn

Euphoria Season 3

Euphoria Season 3: The Rise of Alamo Brown and the Brewing Underworld War

As Euphoria Season 3 takes a darker, more cinematic turn, the spotlight has shifted to its most formidable antagonist yet: Alamo Brown. Played by the commanding Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alamo isn't just a club owner; he is a modern-day cowboy bringing a gritty Western edge to the neon-soaked world of the HBO hit.

Alamo, the proprietor of five high-end strip clubs, has quickly become the center of a violent "tit-for-tat" war with the chillingly calm Laurie (Martha Kelly). With Rue (Zendaya) now caught in the crossfire, the stakes have never been higher.

A Villain Rooted in History

Akinnuoye-Agbaje revealed that showrunner Sam Levinson drew heavy inspiration from legendary Western icons like Jim Brown and Woody Strode to create Alamo. This isn't a "comic book" villain; Alamo is a man who built an empire out of post-slavery culture, making his "cowboy" persona a badge of hard-earned power.

The actor explains that Alamo’s violent outbursts—like the shocking moment he used his golden gun on a live pig in the Silver Slipper—stem from deep-seated insecurity. When Laurie calls him a "pig," it’s more than an insult; it’s a direct attack on his self-worth and the illegitimate empire he has fought to legitimize.

Rue’s Naive New Partnership

In a move that has fans screaming at their screens, Rue has started working at Alamo’s most coveted club. Akinnuoye-Agbaje describes Rue’s perspective as "ruthlessly shattered" naivety.

To Rue, Alamo represents the ultimate success story—a Black man who has "made it" with gold guns and a castle on a hill. However, she doesn't realize she has jumped from Laurie’s "frying pan" directly into Alamo’s "fire." Her attempt to "go legit" while working for him actually insulted Alamo, who believes his criminal enterprise is already the peak of the American Dream.

The War with Laurie Escalates

The rivalry reached a bloody peak after Alamo sent swine to Laurie’s home, only for her to retaliate by releasing a pig into his prized club. In the criminal underworld of Euphoria, "disrespect" is a death sentence. By poisoning Laurie’s beloved bird, Paladin, Alamo has officially declared a war that Akinnuoye-Agbaje teases will only get "deeper and darker."

With the battle lines drawn between these two kingpins, Rue is no longer just a drug user; she is a pawn in a game of checkers that is rapidly turning into a bloodbath.
