All season long, Ellie has been on a mission: find and kill Abby, the woman who brutally murdered Joel. Her journey through Seattle has been marked by grief, obsession, and escalating violence. From torturing Nora for intel to killing Abby’s friends Owen and Mel at the aquarium, Ellie’s choices have become darker and harder to justify.

The most gut-wrenching moment? Realizing too late that Mel was pregnant. That haunting detail shatters Ellie—and it’s clear that the toll of vengeance is catching up with her.
After the events at the aquarium, Ellie reconnects with Jesse and Tommy at the Pinnacle Theatre. The plan is simple: go back to Jackson, leave all this behind. But peace is short-lived.
Review of #TheLastOfUs season 2 finale

* I thought 49 minutes was gonna be rushed but it was actually perfect
* Has some of the most epic scenes I’ve seen on tv
* I’m not sure how to feel about Ellie being portrayed as way more sensitive than in the game
* Perfect ending pic.twitter.com/7B1cNKp7Ea
Abby tracks them down and storms into the theater with terrifying precision. Within seconds, Jesse is shot dead. Tommy is held at gunpoint. Ellie begs for his life, confessing to killing Abby’s friends and trying desperately to de-escalate.

“I let you live,” she says coldly, “and you wasted it.”
Then, the screen cuts to black as she pulls the trigger.

Themes of Revenge and Loss
This finale leans into the show’s central theme: revenge consumes everything in its path. Ellie’s journey has stripped her of friends, innocence, and perhaps even her soul. And yet, there’s no sense of justice or peace—only more death.
Every time a character seeks payback, it spirals into more bloodshed. It’s a powerful reminder that vengeance rarely brings closure.

Just before the credits roll, we get a surprising epilogue: Abby, now back among the Wolves in Seattle, is clearly haunted by what she’s done. This short scene hints that Season 3 will shift perspective—mirroring the structure of The Last of Us Part II game—and retell parts of the story from Abby’s point of view.
