Mel Owens wrapped up his Golden Bachelor journey by choosing Peg Munson, gifting her a diamond promise ring instead of an engagement ring during the season 2 finale on November 12. After weeks of emotional dates and heartfelt conversations, the former football player felt Peg was the one he wanted to continue building a future with.

The season began with 25 women hoping to win Owens’ heart, but it eventually came down to two finalists — retired biomedical engineer Cindy Cullers and retired firefighter Peg Munson. In a dramatic twist, Cindy eliminated herself before the final rose ceremony, after realizing Owens wasn’t ready to propose anytime soon. She expressed that at this stage of her life, she couldn’t wait “two years” to see where things go.

Once Cindy walked away, Owens opened up to Peg about what he truly wanted. He picked out a 3.5-carat ring and explained that it symbolized commitment, not pressure. “This represents our commitment to love and our time to figure out what our future holds,” he told her as he presented the ring.

Meeting Owens’ family was also a big moment for Peg. His sons immediately connected with her, calling her fun, uplifting and someone they could easily talk to. They were happy to give their dad their blessing.

Despite initial doubts, Peg chose to stay, and the couple later reunited on the beach, where Owens gifted her a ring set with more than 30 diamonds. He spoke about how deeply he had come to admire her strength and love for her family. Peg accepted with a smile, saying, “He’s not for everybody, but we’re definitely for each other.”

Yes — and very much in love. During the live “After the Final Rose” special on November 12, the pair confirmed they are still together months after filming wrapped. Owens said openly, “I am in love with her,” while Peg added, “And I’m in love with him 100%.” They shared that their relationship has continued to grow privately while the show aired.

Life since the finale

Because they had to stay hidden until the show ended, both kept their romance quiet for months. Now that the finale has aired, they’re excited to enjoy life publicly as a couple. Owens said he watched their connection grow throughout filming, and he admires Peg’s energy and positivity.

The two plan to travel together, including trips to Michigan, Las Vegas, Napa Valley, and even the upcoming Super Bowl.

Are they getting married soon?

For now, they’re enjoying the present and not rushing into marriage. Peg said the best part of being in their 60s is the freedom to create a love story at their own pace. They want to spend more time with their families and strengthen their bond before any wedding plans.

Owens, who was previously married to Fabiana Pimentel Owens for over two decades, has shared in the past that he missed having a long-term partner. With Peg, he feels he has found someone who understands him and shares the same vision for this new chapter.
