Comedian Bowen Yang has officially confirmed his exit from Saturday Night Live, putting an end to speculation that this weekend would mark his final appearance on the long-running sketch comedy series.
Yang shared the news through an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on his time at SNL and the people who shaped his seven-season journey. “I loved working at SNL, and most of all I loved the people,” he wrote, noting that even during moments when the world felt uncertain, showing up to work at 30 Rock reminded him why comedy still matters.
He also humorously reflected on personal lessons learned during his time on the show, joking about being “bad with wigs” while praising his colleagues as generous, vulnerable, and inspiring. Yang emphasized that comedy is often about persistence, adding that it usually fails “until it doesn’t,” a realization he called the best part of the process.
Over the course of his SNL tenure, Yang earned five Emmy nominations, including one for writing in 2018 and four nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025 — cementing his place as one of the show’s standout performers.
Beyond SNL, Yang is currently appearing in the movie musical Wicked and its upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good. Adding a full-circle moment to his farewell, his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande is set to guest host his final episode of Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Yang concluded his post by expressing gratitude to everyone who shared the SNL stage with him — from coworkers and hosts to audiences — marking the end of an era with warmth, humor, and appreciation.
