The 83rd Golden Globe Awards took place on January 11, 2026, with comedian Nikki Glaser hosting the star-studded night. The ceremony was filled with big wins, surprise upsets, and a few historic moments that had fans talking long after the show ended.
Two projects dominated the evening. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another ruled the movie categories, while the British miniseries Adolescence swept major awards on the television side. But the biggest shock of the night came when Hamnet won Best Motion Picture – Drama.
In the film categories, Hamnet surprised many by beating the box-office hit Sinners for Best Drama. Jessie Buckley also won Best Actress for her emotional role in the film.
One Battle After Another had an incredible night, earning wins for Best Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor.
Wagner Moura made history by winning Best Actor – Drama for The Secret Agent, becoming the first Brazilian actor to take home this award. Timothée Chalamet also set a record as the youngest Best Actor – Musical or Comedy winner for Marty Supreme.

Television awards were dominated by Adolescence, which won Best Limited Series along with acting awards for Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty.
The Pitt took home Best Drama Series, with Noah Wyle winning Best Actor – Drama. On the comedy side, The Studio won Best Musical or Comedy Series, and Seth Rogen won Best Actor for his role.
Jean Smart added another trophy to her collection by winning Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for Hacks, while Michelle Williams won Best Actress in a Limited Series for Dying for Sex.
This year also marked a new chapter for the Golden Globes with the introduction of Best Podcast. The first-ever award went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler.
Helen Mirren received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her lifetime achievements, while Sarah Jessica Parker was honored with the Carol Burnett Award for her contributions to television.

One of the biggest talking points was Hamnet beating Sinners for Best Drama, which few people saw coming. Wagner Moura’s historic win was another emotional highlight, earning loud applause inside the room.
Timothée Chalamet’s victory made him the youngest winner in his category, while Rose Byrne pulled off a true underdog moment by winning for the indie film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
