Nepal Bans Screening of Hindi Films Amid Adipurush Dialogue Controversy
The screening of all Hindi films, including "Adipurush," has been banned in Nepal on Monday due to a controversy surrounding the dialogues in the film. The controversy specifically revolves around the reference to Mother Sita as the "daughter of India." Reports indicate that the film, which is based on the Ramayana, has been banned throughout Nepal following the ban on the screening of Om Raut-directed 'Adipurush' in Kathmandu and Pokhara. To ensure compliance, police personnel have been deployed to 17 cinema halls in Kathmandu, preventing the screening of any Hindi films.
Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah announced on Sunday that no Hindi film would be permitted to be screened in the city until the dialogue in "Adipurush," which states "Janaki is a daughter of India," is removed not only in Nepal but also in India. It is worth noting that Mother Sita is also known as Janaki, and many people believe she was born in Janakpur, Nepal. Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya stated that the screening of "Adipurush," starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, would be banned from Monday onwards.
According to the Mayor of Kathmandu, screening the film 'Adipurush' without removing the objectionable dialogue would cause "irreparable damage." In a Facebook post on Sunday, he stated, "Starting from Monday, June 19, there will be a ban on the screening of all Hindi films in the city of Kathmandu, as the objectionable words in the dialogues of the film 'Adipurush' have not been removed yet."
